The next Metroid game is coming to Switch 2 in January, 2027

Samus Aran’s next mission has a release date. Metroid Ravenous launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, according to Nintendo’s official announcement.

The adventure begins after unknown attackers ambush Samus, leaving her stranded on an unfamiliar moon. Players will gather weapons, explore winding corridors, and hunt powerful bosses as she fights to survive.

The biggest hook is Samus’s newly awakened Metroid instincts, which let her devour enemies. Nintendo is emphasizing quick, aggressive combat alongside familiar beams and missiles. That setup could create interesting tension: how far do you push forward before becoming the prey yourself?

Collectors will also have a Special Edition to consider. Nintendo lists a physical copy of the game, a SteelBook case, and a Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo in the package. Details about the amiibo’s functionality will be announced later.

On a personal note, I played Metroid Dread and absolutely loved it. The action was a big part of what made it so enjoyable for me, so I’m heading into Samus’s next adventure with high hopes. If Ravenous can deliver that same excitement and build on it, I’ll be a very happy Nintendo fan.

Of course, “just as good, but even better” is an easy request to make from the comfort of my couch. Samus has to survive another dangerous alien world; I just have to remember which buttons to press. No pressure, Samus, we’re only asking you to be brilliant all over again!

What are you hoping to see in Samus’s next adventure?
